Privacy Policy

TL;DR

SmackMac does not track you, does not run analytics SDKs, and does not sell your data. Slap detection runs on your Mac. The main network calls are Polar license activation/validation. We don't use your camera or microphone. Questions: dovud.husan@gmail.com.

1. Data We Do Not Collect

SmackMac does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

  • Personal information beyond what Polar needs for checkout (see below)
  • Usage analytics or telemetry
  • Accelerometer or motion data off your device
  • Crash reports sent to us
  • Location data
  • Browsing or app-usage history

There are no analytics SDKs, tracking pixels, or third-party data collection tools embedded in SmackMac.

2. On-Device Processing

Accelerometer readings used for slap detection are processed entirely on your Mac. That sensor data never leaves your device and is not stored beyond the moment it is used for detection and audio playback.

3. Local Storage

SmackMac stores preferences (sensitivity, selected sound pack, etc.) and license activation details locally (including in macOS Keychain / UserDefaults as needed). Preference and license data stay on your machine except for the license requests described in Network Requests.

4. Network Requests

SmackMac makes network requests for licensing only:

  • License activation / validation — When you activate a license key (and on later validation), SmackMac sends your license key, our Polar organization id, and a device label such as your Mac's hostname to Polar's public customer-portal API. No accelerometer data is sent.

SmackMac does not currently ship a built-in auto-updater that phones home. Downloads of new builds are made when you (or the website) download an installer.

5. Hardware Access

SmackMac accesses the following on your Mac:

  • Accelerometer — To detect slaps via the built-in IMU (IOKit HID). macOS may ask for Input Monitoring permission.
  • Audio output — To play sound clips via AVFoundation. No microphone access.

SmackMac does not access your camera, microphone, location, contacts, Photos library, calendar, Bluetooth, USB device inventory for “moaner” features, or accessibility APIs for control of other apps.

6. Third-Party Services

  • Polar — Payment processing and license key management when you buy. Polar may process your email and payment details under Polar's privacy policy.
  • Website hosting — Visiting the marketing site is subject to the host’s standard web logs (e.g. IP, user agent). We do not run third-party ad trackers on the site.

7. Purchases and Email

When you purchase SmackMac through Polar, Polar collects the email and payment information needed to complete the sale and deliver your license key. We may use that email (or the address you write us from) to respond to support and, occasionally, product updates. You can ask us to stop marketing mail anytime at dovud.husan@gmail.com. We do not sell your email.

8. Children's Privacy

SmackMac is not directed at children, and some sound packs are not suitable for minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app itself.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of SmackMac after changes constitutes acceptance.
